Common Darter Dragonfly

The mature male Common Darter dragonfly has a red body but young Common Darters and females have a more brown colouring. The Common Darter dragonfly inhabits areas of still water and can be seen from June to October but may be seen later in the year.

This is a darting dragonfly that spends a lot of time perching on shrubs sometimes far from the water and hunts by quickly darting after prey from it's perch.
