An interesting small mound with a circular arrangement of stones in the form of a small stone circle, cairn circle or kerbed cairn exists in the area known as Old Lord's Heights above Rivington Lane. I have found no documentation regarding this site of unknown antiquity.
The stones highlighted in the photograph are partially buried and difficult to discern in the long grass but their layout is very suggestive of a circle and does not appear to be natural. There is a raised area in the centre, and interestingly the site appears on the modern OS map as an unlabelled indication of a mound or raised feature in the landscape.
If viewed as a stone circle, the site would be of comparable dimensions to that of the mostly destroyed stone circle at nearby Cheetham Close. Alternatively the site could be viewed as a cairn, similar to that known as Jepson's Gate Cairn. Some caution should be excercised as with most local sites, this collection of stones is near to an old quarry and other sites of the Victorian industry.

Viewed from the opposite direction the stones are even less evident, but the circular bank/ditch or dare we say saucer barrow shape is more apparent.
