Orange Tip Butterfly

The male Orange Tip butterfly has distinctive orange tipped wings as shown in the photograph. However, the female has no orange markings. Both butterflies have a marbled pattern on the underside of the wings.

The Orange Tip can be seen from April to June in habitats that include woodland and grassland margins. This one was spotted near Ward's Reservoir.
