Goosander

A large grey-bodied duck with an orange/brown head with a crest that can be raised. Goosander breed on lakes and on slow moving rivers in forested areas and are not uncommon in the West Pennine area but we usually only see one or two at a time.

The Goosander and Red-breasted Merganser are a bit similar but the Goosander bill curves down at the tip.

As you can see by the photo, Goosander have many ducklings in springtime.
