Anglezarke Shooting Huts

Anglezarke Shooting Huts is in Anglezarke

The site of some shooting huts as found on some fairly modern OS maps and last time I checked still shown today. To my knowledge the shooting huts are not shown on any of the older OS maps so I’m not sure of their date at all.

There’s nothing much to see on the site now apart from a flat and sheltered small area beside the stream with what looks to be an old spring probably used as a rough water supply. There were a few old sheets of corrugated metal a little way down stream years ago that could be remnants from the huts but they are long-gone now.

The spring is interesting in some ways as there are quite a few similar in the area. They are in-part natural as a permeable strata, overlain by larger sandstone blocks or flags is exposed in a bank or hillside and perhaps by water through or by manual intervention a concave area is made where water seeps out. In some cases the either side of the spring is reinforced with small areas of dry-stone walling. Rarely a stone cove is built around the spring where water can collect.
