Great Crested Newt

A large newt with black skin, the skin lightens and a crest is displayed by the male in breeding season.

Great Crested Newts are a protected species and are only found in a few locations but there are known to be several populations around the West Pennine Moors and there are probably quite a few more unnoticed so keep an eye out.
